For nearly seventy years Buxlow Preparatory School has been renowned for the very high quality of academic education offered to boys and girls aged 4 - 11 years. The school is justifiably proud of the continuing success of the pupils who annually gain places and scholarships to independent schools in the area. The school also offers a unique degree of pastoral care where every pupil is encouraged to succeed in their own particular field. Children are as likely to win prizes for caring for others, for a cheerful smile, for success on the sports field or for trying hard, as they are for coming top in examinations. Apart from academic work in the classroom the children broaden their education in many fields. A new extension and computer workshop was opened in September 1995. There is a full range of sporting activities including a self-defence club; there are opportunities to receive cricket coaching at Lords, partake in an annual adventure holiday, learn to play the violin and to play chess; regular visits are made to theatres, museums and concerts, and speakers also visit the school to talk to children. Children at Buxlow are encouraged to give of their best at work and play, to be courteous and self-disciplined, to respect their environment and to be aware of the needs of others. Within a small and caring community, we aim to provide a wide and stimulating education allowing each child to gain the confidence, knowledge and skills that will stand them in good stead in future years.
